Men’s Health Song ‘Talk About It’
Composed and Performed by Mike Brady
The songwriter behind such blokey hits as ‘Up There Cazaly’ and ‘One Day in September’ has produced an anthem calling for a collective man-up to health problems.
Melbourne musician and radio personality Mike Brady has penned Talk About It in a call to Australian men to move beyond their traditional reluctance to discuss their health. The song, commissioned by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) is on the attached CD. We hope that you can give it some air play.
"Music is a powerful way to get a strong message out there with emotion," Mr Brady said in a statement. “If hearing this song encourages five or 10 men to talk with someone about a health issue that is worrying them, it will be worthwhile. Physical health, mental health, isolation, loneliness and stress are some issues many men are facing alone but if they talk about it - it is an important first step."
Talk About It has an important broad message. It is a song about men and whatever health means to them when they hear it. A call to action may be talking to a GP about knowing their numbers for blood pressure and cholesterol, checking for diabetes, having a health check for bowel cancer and prostate cancer and knowing their family history.
The acoustic guitar-led song notes how Australian men can feel "bullet proof and we think we're made of steel". "Funny how a bloke usually says what's on his mind" except when it comes to their health, its lyrics also state. "Talk about it - your partner, friend or wife ... it pays to get in early and it might just save your life."
The song is available to be purchased on CD for as cost of $10.00 (including GST, production, postage and handling), with $5 of that amount being a donation to Prostate Cancer Awareness. To order, telephone 1800 206 700.
September is International Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
